It was greater than I imagined. My first thought was, Where am I going to store this thing?!? And indeed, which was before we remodeled our kitchen, so storage WAS a challenge. A crock pot got booted out of the cabinet to create room for my new appliance.
I Then took out your instruction manual. I had been immediately confused. It absolutely was like reading Chinese. Oh. It had been Chinese. The manual has a number of different languages printed. Once I discovered the English section, things were slightly better; although, it did take reading over several sections a couple of times to truly understand how each of the parts and buttons worked.
I knew the only method through that manual would be to actually plug my Electric Pressure Cooker in and employ it! Maybe wild rice was a safe choice. Sure enough, it worked and decrease the cooking time! (Truthfully, the recipe worked just fine for me, but others have tried it since and have reported that there was lots of liquid left. A lot more like soup than rice, even though rice was cooked nicely; they just were required to drain it.)
I understood making bone broth. Which was simple enough. And That I definitely loved lacking my crock pot tied up for 3 or 4 or 5 days while my broth simmered. Yet, I couldnt appear to get past bone broth and wild rice.
Finding Out How To Use My Instant Pot – I truly dont remember the very first thing I attempted. Maybe it had been brown rice? Honestly, I dont remember the way it proved. (It had been probably fine, or I would have been really discouraged.) I recall being really impressed at how fast whatever it was cooked. I did so use the Manual setting, so it was my first-time actually pressure cooking.
However I also remember being somewhat confused by the instruction manual. So confused, in reality, which i dont have any idea where the instruction manual is any more Learning by watching and doing thats the way i prefer it. When my friend Wardee announced her Pressure Cooking eCourse, I was saved! Finally! I could WATCH and Discover ways to use my Instant Pot!
The tips and tricks I learned from your Pressure Cooking eCourse changed everything. I didnt know you can actually put dishes inside the Instant Pot I didnt understand what the trivet thing-y was forUntil Wardee showed me! (More on this in a minute!)
When Things Began To Turn AroundI remember it as when it was yesterday
My husband was coming home for lunch. I needed remembered to thaw the stew meat, but neglected to set it in the crock pot for beef stew. After I glanced on the clock that read 11:07 and then he would be home to eat at noon uh-oh, I used to be in danger! What was I likely to do about the stew? Nothing else was thawed! We had no leftovers!
Therefore I improvised. I simply started adding my personal favorite spices (cumin, chili powder, garlic) towards the meat, used the Saute feature, then pressure cooked it and prayed it could come out. Plus it did! Not only did I make lunch in 53 minutes, I made beef stew in 53 minutes! Plus it was delicious! That does that??? Me! From that moment on, I knew Id be perfectly. My Instant Pot has turned into a trusted kitchen friend that Ive since relied on to help make more lunches and dinners in a hurry.
Problems With The Instant Pot
This list of pros far outweighs the list of cons, nevertheless it wouldnt be a genuine review of the Instant Pot without full disclosure in the negatives, too, would it? In my opinion, these are the top 4 difficulties with the Instant Pot:
#1 Smells – The rubber seal within the lid generally seems to really hold on to smells from whatever was once cooked. For the longest time, my rubber seal smelled like cumin and chili powder because of a big batch of beans I cooked. It experienced a very distinct Tikka Masala smell after cooking Tikka Masala. We never noticed any off tastes inside the foods, nevertheless the smell was definitely present. We were also hand-washing then since this was before we remodeled our kitchen and place in a dishwasher.
Given that were washing both the stainless pot as well as the rubber seal within the dishwasher, you can find no smells! If you are hand-washing, maybe a long soak in baking soda for the rubber seal is definitely the ticket to smell-removal? I recommend keeping an additional seal or 2 accessible just in case.
#2 ?Too Full = Sputtering Bean Liquid Everywhere. I sprouted about 4 servings of chickpeas to help make my Sprouted Kale Hummus. Needless to say, I wanted to cook all of the beans at the same time, so I figured it might do it quicker within the Instant Pot. Unfortunately, 4 servings of swollen beans this type of water needed to cover were just too much in the pot. Bean liquid was dripping zecsbq in the catch on the back and sputtering out from the pressure valve. It created a HUGE mess. Granted, I used to be using a 6-quart Instant Pot. I am fairly confident the 8-quart Instant Pot would handle larger quantities of foods far more cleanly.
#3 Youre gonna want 2. I promise. As soon as you see how awesome the Instant Pot is, youre likely to use it all. the. time. And then you?e going to wish to double up. I learned this the tough way when I made Instant Pot Yogurt for the first time. Poor me. I needed to visit without my Instant Pot for a couple of stinkin days! Ive since ordered the 8-quart! I have an acquaintance who actually has 3 Instant Pots!
